From July until October, we grew, harvested and delivered produce from The Ecology Garden to La Maison Rosewood Shelter in Midland. We wanted to contribute healthy, locally grown fruits and veggies to the women and children in need at the shelter. Often, the food was delivered from Penetanguishene to Midland by bicycle! In 2012, we plan to grow even more food for Rosewood, by adding more plots at The Ecology Garden!
We created the Main Street Learning Gardens on July 29th, 2011, with the help of many wonderful volunteers. We transformed an empty gravel parking lot into gardens with 9 raised beds.

We held a Garden Harvest Festival on Labour Day weekend, September 3rd to 5th. This included a Local Farm Tour, a Movie Night featuring Food, Inc., Sustainability Workshops, and Tours of The Ecology Garden in Penetanguishene.
On October 27th, we hosted the film screening of Mad City Chickens for the SHARE Environmental Film Series. We provided Fair Trade, organic coffee and tea, as well as local treats. The turnout for the film screening was fantastic!
Starting on November 5th, we held the Winter Market weekly on Saturdays at Karma Marketplace until December 24th, featuring local vendors.
On December 1st, along with SHARE (Simcoe Huronia Association for Renewable Energy), we hosted Mike Nickerson, who spoke to a sellout crowd about "Living on Earth as if we want to stay". Mike is the author of several books, including most recently Life, Money and Illusion: Living on Earth as if we want to stay.
We hosted the 2nd Annual Food Security Forum at Karma Marketplace on December 8th. Hannah Renglich of the Ontario Natural Food Co-op and Gary Machan of the Barrie Community Health Centre were the guest speakers for the event.
Stay tuned in 2012, as we are currently planning more events! We will keep you posted on our Events Calendar.
